TWIN PEAKS Set To Return In 2016 With New Episodes On Showtime!!

twin-peaks2The buzz from last week’s cryptic tweets from David Lynch were not without warrant. It’s time to track down the Log Lady because Lynch’s groundbreaking series Twin Peaks will return to the airwaves 25 years after it bowed out on ABC via a limited run series on Showtime.

Lynch will return to direct all nine episodes that will begin production in 2015 to be produced by his Peaks co-creator Mark Frost.

The new episodes will take place in the present day and continue the Peaks timeline 25 years later, which may not bode well for Kyle MacLachlan’s Agent Dale Cooper, who was last seen trapped in the Black Lodge and possessed by the spirit of Killer Bob in the chilling closing moments of the 1991 cliffhanger series finale.

“The mysterious and special world of Twin Peaks is pulling us back. We’re very excited. May the forest be with you,” Lynch and Frost said in a press release from Showtime, and are currently in the writing process for the new episodes.

“For those followers of the show who felt bereft when the show ended where it did all those years ago are going to like where it goes from here,” Frost told Variety. “And we hope that a lot of people who haven’t been to Twin Peaks yet are going to be equally interested in where the story goes from where we left off.”

This eerie short teaser was also released.

Showtime will re-air the two seasons of the cult favorite series before the new episodes begin to air. Twin Peaks brought the catch phrase “Who killed Laura Palmer?” to the forefront of TV pop vernacular during the show’s first season.

“What more can I say – TWIN PEAKS with David Lynch and Mark Frost on Showtime in 2016!” said Nevins. “To quote Agent Cooper, ‘I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.’”

“This show is a kind of thanks to all of the incredibly passionate fans we’ve had over the years that have kept the show alive and passed it down to the next generation,” Frost told Variety. “We’ve been lucky enough to have one of the coolest, most intelligent, most inquisitive group of people attracted to our show. We’re happy for them that the show is coming back.”

There is much more to come on this. Now it’s a guessing game on which cast members will return to the dreary offbeat Washington town. “I’m hopeful that we’ll have news on it in the coming weeks,” Frost told The Hollywood Reporter.
