Yesterday Vanity Fair revealed the cover of its upcoming June issue set to feature exclusive Star Wars: The Force Awakens portraits of the cast and crew from famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. Today new images and behind-the-scenes video from the set of the film have been released!
So what have we learned from the latest Vanity Fair visit to a galaxy far far away (Leibovitz also captured the cast for Episodes I-III)?
The cover shot takes us into the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon for a cast portrait with Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and BB-8.
Additionally we can now say with 100% certainty that Adam Driver is playing the mysterious new masked red lightsaber wielding villain Kylo Ren. While he is not wearing his intimidating helmet in this picture, where he is accompanied by the next generation of Imperial (now called the First Order) Snow-Troopers, we may very have our tip-off that Driver will actually get some face time in the film.
Academy Award Winner Lupita Nyong’o will be playing the motion captured CGI pirate Maz Kanata. We can speculate she’s based out of the outer rim desert planet Jakku.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, is set to open on December 18, 2015. The cast includes Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Crystal Clark, Pip Anderson, Warwick Davis and Max von Sydow.
