Warner Bros. Signals Matt Reeves To THE BATMAN Director’s Chair

Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves is Warner Bros. top choice to direct The Batman, the high profile job recently made up for grabs after the film’s producer, star and co-screenwriter Ben Affleck surrendered the chair last week.

According to Deadline and Variety, Reeves is in talks to direct the highly anticipated Batman solo film starring Affleck, who will reprise his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the upcoming Justice League.

Reeves completed filming War for the Planet of the Apes, his second in the series, which is set for release on July 14th. He certainly has both solid studio tent pole credentials and a darker side (as seen in horror thriller Let Me In) to step up to the task required of the Dark Knight’s next big screen chapter.

The Hollywood Reporter notes WB also has Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead) at the top of the short list.

The Batman will follow the stand alone adventure of DC Comics’ iconic Caped Crusader in a script co-written by Geoff Johns. True Blood and Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello has been cast as one of the film’s villains Deathstroke.
