UPDATE:

Well as it turns out, Disney and Lucas Film will indeed share the teaser trailer to Star Wars: The Force Awakens with the world on Friday, and not just with those lucky enough to live near one of the select theaters set to show it on the big screen. As just announced on the official Star Wars Twitter feed and Facebook page, the 88-second preview will also hit iTunes Trailers on Friday. Exact time TBA.

While I am never one to advocate substituting the big screen experience with watching something on a computer, especially for an event like this trailer, I think this is a far more fair deal for the worldwide legions of fans who want to see the footage. I was incredibly curious to see how many people would show up at the movie theaters this weekend just for the opportunity to catch it early and see how the box office numbers would be affected.  Though it’s safe to assume it would be released online officially next week anyways, along with the inevitable leaked versions that would surface online.

ORIGINAL POST BEGINS:

As we all  are well aware by now, the 88-second teaser trailer to Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit select theaters staring Friday morning, playing in front of every movie over the weekend. I’m sure the Disney lawyers will have their hands full all weekend with cease and desist orders to YouTube users who post bootleg versions of the highly anticipated first look footage. According to StarWars.com, it will be in theaters all over the world in December, and in all likelihood, online shortly thereafter.

Though it only seems like yesterday I was standing in line at the Regal Union Square theater in NYC for the first showing of Meet Joe Black (in 1998), to only walk right out after the trailer for The Phantom Menace debuted…
