Sir Ian McKellen and Orlando Bloom made an early morning appearance on the Today Show and brought with them the epic full trailer to The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug to debut for fans. The middle chapter of The Hobbit trilogy heralds the return of Bloom’s Legolas from the Lord of the Rings films, adds Lost‘s Evangeline Lily as the Elf Tauriel and will also feature more Benedict Cumberbatch, who voices the dragon Smaug.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, directed by Peter Jackson, is set for theaters in 3D, IMAX 3D and HFR 3D (48 FPS) on December 13th.
