I think it’s safe to say official press releases from the studios are quickly going the wayside when it comes to genre films in favor of social media blasts. Via his Twitter account, director David Ayer shared the first picture of his Suicide Squad cast taken after yesterday’s script table read in Toronto.
Pictured here are Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc).
Also present and in this pic are Adam Beach, Jim Parrack and Ike Barinholtz, whose roles in the film have yet to be announced.

Noticeably absent are Jared Leto (Joker), who has tour date commitments with his band 30 Seconds To Mars, and Scott Eastwood who is out promoting The Longest Ride (and has a Squad role that is still under wraps).
What’s interesting to note is how many of these actors in the picture have not been officially announced by the studio in a press release. That’s not to say we hadn’t read reports online from various sources or straight from the actors themselves via junket interviews. But the last we heard from WB on the record regarding the cast line-up was in December to announce the film was green lit and set to star Smith, Robbie, Leto, Delevingne, Courtney and Tom Hardy (who has since departed the production).
Suicide Squad is set for for release on August 5, 2016.
