Disney dropped up on us a seven-minute preview of Star Wars Rebels. The animated series, which will air on Disney XD in the fall, was the only representative of Star Wars at Comic-Con, premiered its first episode for fans in Hall H. We now have the first seven minutes of the show online, which sees the Empire’s Imperial Officers and Stormtroopers invade the remote planet Lothal.
Introduced are the main cast, the ragtag crew of the Ghost: the young Force-sensitive Ezra Bridger, the “cowboy-Jedi” Kanan Jarrus, the alien Zeb (for all us old school purists, his was based on early Chewbacca concept art by Ralph McQaurrie) and Sabine Wren, female warrior who wears Mandalorian armor.
Set between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, the series will explore the formation of the Rebel Alliance, the early years of the Galactic Empire’s tyranny and from all accounts honor the cinematic aesthetic of the original trilogy.
Here is the show’s official synopsis:
Star Wars Rebels continues the epic tradition of the legendary Star Wars saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. But there are a select few who are brave enough to stand up against the endless Stormtroopers and TIE fighters of the Empire: the clever and motley crew of the starship Ghost. Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, have thrilling adventures, and become heroes.
Rebels’ one-hour debut is set for October on Disney Channel and will go to series on Disney XD. The show’s voice cast includes Freddie Prinze Jr., Jason Isaacs, Taylor Gray, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar, Vanessa Marshall, David Oyelowo and Billy Dee Williams.
