Chris Pine Set As Steve Trevor In WONDER WOMAN

The Chris Pine/DC Universe casting carousel seems to have finally made its final stop. Steve Trevor or Hal Jordan? It was back and forth for the past several months, but it looks like the Star Trek‘s James T. Kirk will star as Steve Trevor, Gal Gadot’s love interest in Wonder Woman.

The Wrap reports Pine has closed a multi-picture deal with Warner Bros. that includes Wonder Woman sequel options, and we can assume DC Movie Universe cross-over film potential.

Pine was first reportedly in talks for the Steve Trevor role, which was then later linked to Scott Eastwood’s (still TBA) role in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Recently Pine was on the rumor mill to play the big screen DC Universe’s Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern film (now titled Green Lantern Corps) and Justice League films. Well if you’ve lost track of all the casting smokescreens, it seemed Pine was gonna sign up for one role or another at some point.

Gal Gadot will make her first appearance as DC’s Amazon icon in next March’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Wonder Woman solo film, directed by Patty Jenkins, is set for June 23, 2017. Since Steve Trevor is a military man in the comic books, let’s not rule out an appearance in Suicide Squad with ties to Amanda’s Waller’s (Viola Davis) government dealings and the likely larger role in WB’s grand cinematic arc.

This may also mean WB has found its happy place for the Wonder Woman solo film. Reportedly there were multiple screenwriters competing to score the writing gig. The film’s storyline can easily take place in the current DC Movie timeline or be set in a prequel World War II era. Casting Trevor at least seems to suggest a general direction has been decided on.

Pine is currently shooting Star Trek Beyond, reprising his role as James T. Kirk in the third film of the rebooted Trek series. Whether that allows him to possibly squeeze in a day or two on the Suicide Squad set would likely be a highly guarded secret and something for Warner Bros. and Paramount to play nice on.
