Let’s do the time warp again. Here it is, the first trailer and one-sheet to the already much debated Terminator: Genisys, the first chapter in the planned quasi-reboot trilogy of the series that made Arnold Schwarzengger and the catch phrase “I’ll be back” household names.
All the familiar characters are here, but the faces have changed since the leads have been re-cast. The main story takes place during the events first seen in 1984’s Terminator. From this trailer, we can see there are obvious changes to the familiar timeline. There is an aged Arnold T-800 who has been living in the past, a T-100o added to the arc set in 1984, and some alternate versions of familiar scenes (as in Sarah Connor telling Kyle Reese “Come with me if you want to live.”). There are heavy nods here to the sort of timeline mash-ups we saw in Back To The Future II.
Emilia Clarke is the new Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke is John Connor, Jai Courtney plays Kyle Reese and Arnold (say it with me) is back. No hint yet of who Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith is playing.
Directed by Alan Taylor, Terminator: Genisys is set for a July 1, 2015 release and stars Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Matt Smith, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.
