The CW dropped quite the kick ass time-hopping new trailer to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow that has fans already longing for January 2016 to get here a hell of a lot sooner.
To build up excitement for the two-part Arrow/The Flash crossover that will also serve as the big lead-in before Legends’ mid-season series debut, this near three-minute knock out certainly shows off the epic scale we can expect. The highly anticipated spin off sees 22rd century time traveler Rip Hunter Arthur Darvill recruiting heroes and villains from both CW shows to battle the immortal conqueror Vandal Savage (Casper Crump).
This new sneak peek reveals the show will rely on time hopping from era to era, which is a welcome change up from setting it strictly in contemporary times along side Arrow and The Flash (and hey, let’s include Constantine from now on). There is no shortage of action, plus new good looks at White Canary (Caity Lotz), Hawkman (Falk Hentschel), Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee) as well as the new Firestorm (Franz Drameh) suited up in a costume reminiscent of his comic book origins.
And let’s not for one moment over look this line from Rip Taylor:
“I’ve seen men of steel die and dark knights fall. You’re entire 21st century world will suffer.”
How, when or if ever Superman or Batman make their way in person to the CW-WB-verse still seems unlikely, but it’s a nice nod to the overall DC Universe. Superman has already had more than a few notable obscured cameos in Supergirl over on CBS, but let’s give it some time to see if that cross-over happens. While it’s awesome that the Man of Steel and The Dark Knight have now been alluded to in the CW TV world, but explaining why they are not present to provide assistance when the world needs saving is a whole other basket of plot points. But with the introduction of the Multiverse on The Flash this season, virtually any scenario is now open game. For all we know over there on let’s say “Earth-S” there’s Tom Welling’s Superman soaring over Metropolis or even a Man of Steel who looks exactly like… Brandon Routh?
Until Legends of Tomorrow hits The CW on Thursday January 21st at 8PM, we have the one-two punch of the December 1st episode of Arrow “Legends of Today” and the December 2nd episode of The Flash “Legends of Yesterday” to look forward to.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s all-star line-up includes Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/Atom). Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave), Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein/), Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/White Canary), Ciarra Renee (Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl), Hawkman (Falk Hentschel), Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter) and Franz Drameh (Jay Jackson/Firestorm) and Casper Crump (Vandal Savage).
