NBC’s loss is The CW fans’ gain. Constantine may have had a short network shelf life earlier this year, but nonetheless Matt Ryan won over legions of Hellblazers as the iconic DC Comics paranormal investigator. Ryan gets to reprise his role in next week’s quasi-cross over season four episode of Arrow and we have the new promo and pics.
Thankfully since Constantine‘s run was produced by Warner Bros. Television (as is Arrow and The Flash), it wasn’t a huge hurdle to bring Matt Ryan from NBC to The CW and combine the DC TV Universe one step further. In next week’s Arrow, titled ‘Haunted,’ we get to see a quite awesome cross-over that probably would have been impossible as long as Constantine lived on NBC.
It’s no secret that John Constantine’s supernatural talents would be called upon in Arrow‘s fourth season to assist with the finer points of Ra’s al Ghul’s Lazarus Pit and the unholy resurrection of Sara Lance. Sara needs to be in tip top shape to take her place as White Canary in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and as Arrow viewers know, there is a lot of black magic exorcising and fixing to be done on Starling City’s former vigilante known as The Canary.
From The CW:
MATT RYAN REPRISES HIS ROLE AS JOHN CONSTANTINE ON ARROW — When things take a turn for the worse with Sara (guest star Caity Lotz), Oliver (Stephen Amell) calls in a favor from an old friend who deals in the mystical, John Constantine (guest star Matt Ryan). John Badham directed the episode written by Brian Ford Sullivan & Oscar Balderrama.
Hopefully there will be a ratings spike for this episode and we’ll get to see John Constantine make another DC/CW appearance, whether it be on Arrow, The Flash or Legends of Tomorrow.
Arrow‘s ‘Haunting’ airs next Wednesday on The CW at 8PM.
