Did you get your big Mission: Impossible fix yesterday? If not, turns out the trailer yesterday was just a warm-up. Paramount dropped the full sneak peek today, all 2:40 of it!
I usually feel nearly three-minute trailers are previews that over stay their welcome and tend to give too much away, but I admit this is an awesome package. Rogue Nation looks to take the series back to its dark espionage roots that Brian DePalma brought to the 1996 first entry in the reboot series.
The plot looks dense and the action looks grand but grounded, not in the same vein of the numerous over-the-top techy set pieces that made the last two entries look like $200+ million budgeted extravaganzas. Don’t get me wrong, Mission: Impossible 3 and Ghost Protocol were highly entertaining high octane rides, but I’m looking forward to the direction Rogue Nation is headed.
Admittedly during the intro, I couldn’t help but think this is what might happen if Jack Donaghy took a high ranking CIA job after he finished his run at Kabletown.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is set for theaters and IMAX on July 31st. Directed by Chris McQuarrie, the film stars Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris and Alec Baldwin.
