Director Joss Whedon took to a live Twitter chat yesterday along with cast members Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), and Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson) to answer some burning questions from the eager online community. Blastr has a roundup of their ten favorite highlights, but one rumor that recently spread like wildfire across the web was directly addressed, and put to rest.
“There is no Spider-Man cameo. But the Avengers do turn off the dark,” Whedon assured fans with his typical sarcasm in regards to a Spider-Man appearance in The Avengers.
The simple logistics of the Web Slinger ever swinging in to join Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and The Hulk on the big screen has always been a serious long shot from the get go. Even though they are all Marvel characters, Sony owns the movie rights to Spider-Man, while Disney holds the rights to the numerous heroes appearing in The Avengers (and many many others). By a similar legal arrangement, you can also count out the X-Men, Wolverine, and the Fantastic Four to appear outside of their self contained movie universe, 20th Century Fox has the rights to those characters.
The literal BIG news yesterday came from IMAX, who along with Disney announced that Marvel’s The Avengers will be digitally remastered for release in IMAX 3D (in addition to 3D and 2D). Joss Whedon shot the film in 3D, but now Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will also be seen on the biggest of big screens come May 4th.
Paramount’s solid conversion of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol for IMAX bodes well for the added excitement leading up to the release of this special effects laden super team-up film.
In addition, an explosive ten second teaser went viral to increase buzz for the full commercial scheduled to air on Super Bowl Sunday. Tease is the word, and ten seconds is ten seconds, so this will have to hold you over until Game Day.
Check out the official Press Release from IMAX regarding the film’s official synopsis and presentation:
