With Tom Holland signed up as the new big screen Spider-Man, Sony and Marvel reportedly have their casting sights set on Marisa Tomei to play Peter Parker’s Aunt May.
Sources tell Variety the Academy Award winning actress is in final negotiations for the role and an multi-picture offer was made last week.
Whether Tomei signs in the dotted line remains to be announced. Sony and Marvel Studios are co-producing the next Spider-Man film, which will be directed by Jon Watts.
Tomei may not have to wait for Spidey’s next big screen adventure to play Aunt May. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the character would make her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe along side Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War, which is currently shooting.
May Parker was previously portrayed on the big screen by Rosemary Harris in Sam Raimi’s trilogy which starred Tobey Maguire, and most recently by Sally Field in Marc Webb’s two films starring Andrew Garfield.
Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6, 2016. The still untitled Spider-Man reboot is slated for release on July 28, 2017.
