There are trailers that give too much away (when they run too long), and then there are trailers that give too much away (by revealing a HUGE plot twist). The new trailer to Terminator Genisys goes with the latter by giving away a no-going-back plot point that had been hinted at by the film’s producers. I don’t think anyone expected to get in a trailer.
There are no Genisys spoilers in saying that we are well aware of an older T-800 sent back before the timeline of the original film to raise and train Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) for Skynet’s plan to kill her before she gives birth to her son John (Jason Clarke). This much is made clear in the first trailer. The whole twisty plot of this quasi-reboot plays free and loose within the familiar events of 1984’s The Terminator, which looks like a great way to re-approach the series.
But if you want to really know what’s in store, check out this spoiler-heavy second trailer. It’s naive to think this not be broadcast on television as widely as it’s making the online rounds since it’s release this morning, but I’ll at this point still refrain from addressing it until my next post on the film.
And go…
Here is the official synopsis of the film:
When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…
Directed by Alan Taylor, Terminator: Genisys is set for a July 1, 2015 release and stars Emilia Clarke (Sarah Connor), Jai Courtney (Kyle Reese), Jason Clarke (John Connor), Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800), Matt Smith, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.
