There was talk that Elektra would eventually have to make her deadly mark on Matt Murdock in Netflix’s hit Marvel’s Daredevil, and as it turns out the femme fatale assassin will indeed cross paths with The Man Without Fear. Elodie Yung has been cast as the sai-wielding Marvel icon for season two of the series.
This is pretty great news. Yung more than proved her kick ass prowess as Jinx in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, holding her own alongside Ray Park’s Snake Eyes and Lee Byung-hun’s Storm Shadow. She will make an excellent addition to the cast of the gritty show.
Per Marvel’s press release, Elektra is described as “a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.”
Elodie’s addition to the series, currently shooting in NYC, is the second familiar comic book character coming to the show. The Walking Dead‘s Jon Bernthal was announced as Frank Castle, i.e. The Punisher last month in major casting news for fans.
From Marvel:
“After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” said Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”
Jennifer Garner was pretty much mis-cast as the exotic assassin Elektra in 2003’s big screen version of Daredevil as well as its 2005 spin-off Elektra. Garner had some impressive fighting chops under her belt from her then current role in ABC’s spy drama Alias, but it made her a too easy and popular choice at the time and ultimately fell flat.
Charlie Cox’s Hell’s Kitchen lawyer looks to have anything but an easy time of it come 2016 when Marvel’s Daredevil returns for streaming.
