From Marvel:
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
Bernthal is the fourth actor to play the violent vigilante. Three previous big screen versions starred Dolph Lundgren (1989), Thomas Jane (2004), and Ray Stevenson (2008) in the title role, and did not sit well with fans. Following the fantastic job done on season one of Daredevil, adding an armed vigilante willing to take things even further than Matt Murdock can only take the series to the next level.
