This is pretty shocking movie news: Edgar Wright and Marvel Studios have amicably parted ways on the writer/director’s passion project Ant-Man over creative differences. The Cornetto Trilogy director has been developing the project for years at the studio, screened test footage at Comic Con in 2012, and had his main cast in place ready to roll this film into Marvel’s Phase Three big screen slate of films. This abrupt spilt makes little sense in regards to the obligatory “creative differences” angle given.
From Marvel.com:
Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.
Variety reports Marvel Studios “is zeroing in on a new filmmaker, but is not yet in negotiations with one yet,” that possibly being the film’s co-writer and Attack The Block director Joe Cornish.
Ant-Man is set to star Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Patrick Wilson and Cory Stall.
