THE X-FILES Set To Return To Fox For A Six-Episode Event Series!

Do you want to believe again? Fox made it official today after months of rumblings that the groundbreaking sci-fi show The X-Files will return to the airwaves with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson set to reprise their roles as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

The show, which aired for nine seasons on Fox from 1993-2002 and spawned two big screen outings, will return for a six -episode event series. The network had success last year with reviving 24 for a limited series run.

Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group Dana Walden and Gary Newman along with the creator and executive producer of The X-Files Chris Carter, made the official announcement.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” Chris Carter said in the press statement, who is also back on board. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

There has been no lack of interest from the stars when the subject of returning to the show was brought up in the last few years, Fox execs revealed they were keen on moving forward with a revival during a TCA event in January. Though the shorter episode run was likely the crucial must-have for sealing the deal in finally get the gang back together.

“I’m assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now. We’ll see what form, how many (episodes). Certainly I can’t nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We’re all old, we don’t have the energy for a full season,” Duchovny told USA Today in January.

Gillian Anderson tweeted this in regarding the news:

“Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for,” said the Fox execs.

Production will commence this summer. No air date has been announced.
