Combiner robots were not uncommon during the raging robot years of the ’80s. Voltron surely kicked off the imaginations of American kids with five mechanical lions merged to form one giant robot warrior. Transformers got into the game in G1 with the introduction of the Constructicons, who were the first of several combiners to join the series.
Six Decepticons formed the deadly Devastator and hid among humans as lime green construction vehicles. That color scheme was odd for sure, but Devastator was incredibly powerful and certainly made mince meat of the Autobots on many occasions (until they were countered by the Aerialbots’ Superion).
Hasbro once again kicked off the 2015 Toy Fair with a huge presentation in Midtown Manhattan, and one of their big reveals was a deluxe re-issue of the entire Constructicon team.
All the boys are back: Mixmaster (cement truck), Bonecrusher (bulldozer), Scavenger (excavator), Long Haul (dump truck), Hook (crane), Scrapper (front-load loader). They have been re-created and improved with greater detail from their ’80s toy versions. Each transform back and forth from vehicle to robot mode and it goes without saying, combine as a group into an amazing new Devastator.
