20th Century Fox has released the first trailer to Independence Day: Resurgence, the 20 years-in-the-making sequel to the 1996 alien invasion blockbuster.
Set two decades after the first invasion, Earth has used the alien technology to upgrade its defenses for the inevitable second round. Jeff Golbum returns as David Levison along with Bill Pullman (Thomas Whitmore), Vivica A. Fox (Jasmine), Judd Hirsch (Julius Levinson) and Brent Spiner (Dr. Okun).
This first look is surprisingly grim and offers none of the humor that made the ID4 such a fun ride. The X-Files-eqsue imagery set to President Whitmore’s iconic speech certainly makes this an interesting trailer that’s definitely sparked my interest.
