20th Century Fox dropped our first look at Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the highly anticipated follow up to 2011’s solid franchise reimagining Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Ditching the iconic make-up designs the Apes films were known for since 1968, this modern take uses showcases the amazing Andy Serkis’ performance capture skills and top notch CGI to brink the simian messiah Caesar to life. Director Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield) picks up ten years after from Rupert Wyatt’s film that left humanity’s future in question with a lethal pandemic on the horizon, opening the door for the hyper-intelligent Caesar and his fellow pissed off apes to take back the planet.
Here is 20th Century Fox’s official synopsis:
“A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, set for July 11, 2014, also stars Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman, Judy Greer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Toby Kebbell.
