So we are off and running with big Super Bowl spots hitting the web early. Warner Bros. has released their 30-second trailer to Terminator: Genisys, which is certainly geared for a Super Bowl crowd courtesy of big effects short attention span editing. A new one-sheet was also revealed.
Arnold is back as two versions of the iconic T-800 in this timey whimey revisionist vision of the Terminator series that promises to literally slip in and out of familiar scenes in the first 1984 film and pretty much change up everything you thought you knew about the timeline. Main players like Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese and John Connor have been re-cast, and you can see elements of T2: Judgement Day area also incorporated via a new liquid metal T-1000.
The filmmakers need to be more than extremely clever to pull this Back To The Future 2-esque tactic off, plus insure moviegoers will stay on board for two more films (did you think this isn’t a planned trilogy?).
Here is the official synopsis of the film:
When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…
Directed by Alan Taylor, Terminator: Genisys is set for a July 1, 2015 release and stars Emilia Clarke (Sarah Connor), Jai Courtney (Kyle Reese), Jason Clarke (John Connor), Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800), Matt Smith, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.
