Supergirl is not only flying to The CW this fall for its sophomore season, Superman will be joining his Kryptonian cousin in National City. The role has been cast and no, Tom Welling is not returning to the network as Kal-El. Tyler Hoechlin, Teen Wolf alum and star of Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some! has been set as the latest small screen Man of Steel.
“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” said Supergirl EP Andrew Kreisberg in a press release. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
As previously reported, Kal-El will join Kara in the first two episodes of the upcoming season. We should assume more appearances are planned down the line for a cross-overs with The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.
Hoechlin follows George Reeves, John Haymes Newton, Gerard Christopher, Dean Cain, and Tom Welling as the television version of the DC Comics icon.
Supergirl hits The CW Mondays at 8 p.m this fall.
