You read that correctly. It’s been announced that Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen will pay a visit to National City and set the stage for the television team up of The Flash and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist).
CBS’ Supergirl and The CW’s The Flash have set the crossover episode for Monday, March 28th, which will see Gustin switch networks for the night.
Here is the statement from executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg was released today:
“We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making SUPERGIRL – THE FLASH and SUPERGIRL are teaming up! We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally, thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.”
Although the shows air on different networks, CBS and The CW are affiliated. In addition, Warner Bros. Television produces all the DC related series currently on the air (which also made it possible for Matt Ryan to cross over from NBC’s cancelled Constantine and reprise his role on Arrow this past fall).
Details on the plot are still under wraps, but the introduction of the multi-verse in The Flash’s second season story line opens the door in countless ways for cross overs of this kind.
