With principal photography recently completed in London, at long last we have the title for Star Wars: Episode VII as announced on the official Star Wars Facebook Page.
Are you ready? The Force Awakens
There will no doubt be the expected talkbacks regarding the title, but my first question is why “Awakens” and not “Re-Awakens” since (as far as we know), it’s not another prequel. Perhaps all things to do with the Force have been dormant since balance was ultimately restored when Vader and Palpatine perished at the end of Return of the Jedi. But we really should assume we know nothing about this and shut up until the film opens when we see this title scroll upwards in the opening crawl. Truth be told, the title does not contradict the latest round of plot rumors, but that’s a spoiler pool I’m not going to get into detail here.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams and set to open on December 18, 2015, stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Crystal Clark, Pip Anderson, Warwick Davis and Max von Sydow.
