What’s old is what’s new, and remakes are pretty much to be expected often nowadays. This remake of Tobe Hooper’s horror classic Poltergeist looks promising enough, at least from the two trailers that dropped today. Digital Spy snagged the first look at the international trailer and Apple Trailers has the domestic version. Between the two sneak peeks that run over two minutes each, there is an awful lot of the film given away truth be told.
This new take on the chilling 1982 haunted house thriller stars Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt as the parents fighting off evil spirits that target their daughter played by Kennedi Clements. Horror master Sam Raimi is producing, and if this reboot delivers the levels of scares that his terrifying reboot of Evil Dead did, then we are in for a treat. There is certainly enough familiar imagery present that’s reminiscent of the original film, but for God’s sake just the return of the clown doll is enough to bring back the spooks I felt when I saw it in theaters.
Here is the film’s official synopsis:
Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.
Poltergeist, directed by Gil Kenan and set for a July 24th release in 3D, stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris Kennedi Clements, Kyle Catlett and Jane Adams.
