BBC has confirmed on social media with a statement from Peter Capaldi that the current Doctor Who star will depart the series after the upcoming 10th season.

Following the initial tweets from BBC that broke this story, an official press release was sent out with addition quotes from Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi and EP Steven Moffat from an appearance on Jo Whiley’s BBC Radio 2 show.

But hey, it’s a long way from over. Peters’ amazing, fiery, turbulent Doctor is still fighting the good fight, and his greatest adventures are yet to come. Monsters of the universe, be on your guard – Capaldi’s not done with you yet!
It was also announced the 10th Season would kick off on Saturday April 15th at 9PM featuring a new companion Bill played by Pearl Mackie.

Capaldi was announced as the 12th Doctor in 2013, replacing the very popular Matt Smith as the immortal time traveler from Gallifrey. The actor is leaving along with long time show runner /writer and EP Steven Moffat at the end of the season.
