Marvel UK dropped a new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, and it finally provides more than a scant overview at the intergalactic plot. It pretty much forgoes the inescapable James Gunn-ness of the upcoming big budget space epic and sticks to a straight score rather than a contemporary soundtrack.
In this sneak peek, we get some back story on Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/ Star-Lord plus some worthy quips from Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper). This trailer definitely lies outside of the quirky marketing that has come before it, even so far as to mentioning the other Marvel films in title cards. I wonder if at some point the ads will actually make a point that Guardians will, despite its setting as predominantly an offshoot from the expected grand Marvel arc, have impact into the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Guardians of the Galaxy, directed by James Gunn, hits theaters on August 1st and stars Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Glenn Close (Nova Prime), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Michael Rooker (Yondu), John C. Reilly (Rhomann Dey), Djimon Hounsou (Korath the Persuer), plus the voices of Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Vin Diesel (Groot) and Josh Brolin (Thanos).
