In case you were under a rock today and have not heard, Marvel held a press event at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles earlier today and dropped some major movie bombshells our way. We know we’re getting Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas to kick off Phase Three, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige took to the stage at Disney’s Hollywood Blvd. venue to make clear the studio’s massive plans for Marvel’s post Avengers: Age of Ultron movie slate.
Avengers 3 will be titled Infinity War and be released in two parts. Captain America 3 will give Civil War with Captain America taking on Iron Man as expected. Captain Marvel will be getting her own movie, the first female led film on the Marvel slate (sorry Black Widow), and will feature the Carol Danvers version of the heroine. The Inhumans are on their way in 2018 (because Marvel Studios can’t use “mutants”), and the third adventure for Thor will be known as Thor: Ragnarok, which will be set right after the events Age of Ultron (which will introduce us to new line-up of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes by film’s the end).
While there was no casting announcement confirming Benedict Cumberbatch is set to play Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange, we do know there will indeed be a Black Panther solo film coming our way in 2017 starring Chadwick Boseman (42, Get On Up). That pretty much confirms Andy Serkis’ role as Black Panther villain Ulysses Klaw in Avengers: Age of Ultron and the South African shooting locations that will set up characters and links to the use of Vibranium found in Wakanda.
