Hot on the heels of the talk that Jared Leto is being eyed for the role of the Joker in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, Collider is going on the record that The Wolf Of Wall Street stunner Margot Robbie has been cast as fan favorite Harley Quinn.
Robbie has been included the list along with Tom Hardy and Will Smith as stars in the running for roles in the adaptation of the DC Comics book that Ayers describes as “the Dirty Dozen with super villains.” Squad will hit theaters less than five months after the big screen adaptation of Justice League on August 5th, 2016, and well before any of the upcoming DC solo films.
Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992 as an Arkham Asylum psychiatrist who falls in love with the Joker and later becomes his accomplice. The character exploded in popularity and was eventually brought in to the official comics continuity. Harley Quinn is easily one of the most popular characters for Cosplayers, you can’t walk more than ten feet at any given convention and not see a version of her costume on display.
It’s an excellent move, if not a no-brainer, to include her in the Suicide Squad line-up, and set up a showdown (at the Joker’s side?) with Ben Affleck’s Batman down the line.
Rumors are also simmering rumors that Jesse Eisenberg may reprise his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice role of Lex Luthor in the film as well.
