Is Channing Tatum ready to walk from playing Gambit on the big screen? A new report claims the deal for the 21 Jumpstreet and Magic Mike star is on shaky ground.
Despite a high profile appearance the Hall H stage at Comic-Con a few weeks ago for a photo-op with 20th Century Fox’s Marvel line-up of big screen heroes and villains, The Wrap is reporting Channing Tatum close to walking away from the Rupert Wyatt helmed Gambit solo film.
The report seems a bit both odd and vague, but the sources close to the site claim Tatum’s deal with the studio to play the Cajun mutant is falling apart as we speak and he may very well quit the film entirely (which he is also producing with partner Reid Carolin).
According to The Wrap, Tatum’s camp is “still in active discussions with the studio but acknowledged that ‘something is up.'”
No actual reasons for the sudden downward spiral with the deal are given, so frankly it’s The Wrap’s story to bear the burden of at this point. It does seems odd to me that Fox would bring out Tatutm to join the the stars of X-Men: Apocalypse, Fantastic Four and Deadpool at Comic-Con if there wasn’t a deal 100% locked.
There will likely be some official imminent confirmations or denials on this developing story since Gambit is set for an October 7, 2016 release.
