It looks like the injury Harrison Ford suffered from the Millennium Falcon door incident on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII was worse than initially reported. But the good news is he’s on the mend.
“Harrison Ford’s left leg was broken in an accident,” ABC News and BBC confirmed via Ford’s publicist regarding the June 12th mishap. The speculated extent of the injury varied from a sprained ankle to pelvis damage.
Disney released this statement shortly after the actor was taken to the hospital following the accident.
“Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII.’ He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates.”
“His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly,” Ford’s rep Ina Treciokas said in a statement. “He’s doing well and looks forward to returning to work.”
Ford was airlifted to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford after the accident at Pinewood Studios. No official timeline is known as far his rehab stint will be, but it has been speculated that he may be sidelined from filming scenes for the latest Star Wars film, set 30 years after 1983’s Return of the Jedi, for possibly eight weeks.
Star Wars: Episode VII is set to open on December 18, 2015, and stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.
