Is Furious 7‘s James Wan Warner Bros.’ choice to direct the Aquaman solo film starring Jason Momoa? According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio and the director are in prelim talks to make it happen.
Wan is riding high on the stellar success of Furious 7, which has taken in nearly $400 million worldwide, and is obviously a hot commodity right now. He is currently prepping to shoot The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist for Warner Bros. in the fall.
Wan’s roots are in the low budget horror genre where he made lucrative franchises out of Saw, Insidious, and now The Conjuring.
Aquaman will have his big screen introductory cameo in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The solo film is set for July 27, 2018, and will require a massive amount of pre-production, especially when there will be huge sequences set in the water. WB will likely want to secure a director sooner than later, even though the film is over three years away from opening weekend.
Justice League, Part One will hit the big screen nine months earlier, where Aquaman will have a major role along side Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller).
Wan is not a lock to helm the inevitable follow-up to Furious 7, but reportedly Universal can exercise his option which would take him out of the loop for Aquaman.
