With Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles heading back to the big screen in two weeks via a live-action & CGI-laden extravaganza, you’d be hard pressed not to expect some kick ass action figures to make their way to toy stores. Playmates Toys has been doing a bang up job with TMNT over the past several years. They have put out extensive lines of various goodies targeted to collectors, old school fans, viewers of Nickelodeon’s animated series, and the even toddlers who want in on the action.
It’s no surprise that the iconic heroes in a half shell went through a drastic design change for the new movie produced by Michael Bay and starring Megan Fox as April O’Neill. I had the opportunity to get a sneak peek at the movie tie-in line at the New York Toy Fair this past February, but it was still all hush hush to the general public.
By now we’ve seen the new updated Turtles in the trailers and TV spots, so I can share some images of the tie-in action figure versions of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo Raphael from Playmates Toys. These new figures, which range in height from 4″ – 5.5″ boast an impressive level of detail and numerous points of articulation, allowing a wide arrange of cool action poses.
Leonardo comes equipped with a two katana swords and removable double sheath backpack. Donatello has his Bo Staff. Raphael is able to wield his twin Sais. Michelangelo of course has his signature nunchucks. Additional figures in the series include the Megan Fox’d up April O’Neill (complete with camera, shoulder bag and two Sais), Master Splinter and Raphael in trench coat disguise (with removable hat, glasses and scarf).
You can check out the Playmates Toys official website to check out their full arsenal of TMNT movie tie-in’s and classic toy lines.
Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, (Battle: LA), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set for theaters on August 8th in 3D and stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Alan Ritchson, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, Noel Fisher, Danny Woodburn, and William Fichtner.
