Nathan Fillion Wants To Suit Up As BOOSTER GOLD

During a Firefly panel at Wizard World Comic Con Chicago, Nathan Fillion shared the news with fans that if he had his pick of any DC or Marvel super hero to play, his choice would be Booster Gold.

“I think I could take a pretty good crack at Booster Gold,” Fillion told fans in attendance. “That’s kind of my niche — show-offy, vain. I think I could handle that — not too bright.”

The DC Comics hero and Justice League member debuted in 1986 and hails from the 25th Century. Booster gets his powers from stolen museum artifacts: an advanced super suit and Legion of Superheroes flight ring. A former jock caught betting on his own games, Michael Jon Carter seeks glory by retreating to the distant past using Rip Hunter’s time machine.

It was speculated the time traveling character set to appear in The CW’s upcoming series Legends of Tomorrow could be Booster Gold, but it wasn’t meant to be when Arthur Darvill was cast as Rip Hunter in the show.

If things don’t pan out to play Gold, Fillion was up for taking a stab at a far more obscure DC hero: Ambush Bug.

Remember that guy? Little bit off his rocker,” he said. “You’d never see my face.” Fillion finished strong with another character he could hit out of the ballpark. “But I think Greatest American Hero is due for a reboot.”

The Firefly and Castle star was an early favorite to play the Green Lantern on the big screen (Ryan Reynolds took that bullet), but went on to voice the character in the animated Justice League direct-to-DVD features Doom and Throne of Atlantis.

I think its only a matter of time Fillion finds his way to a live action super hero role. With time travel playing a major role in The CW’s The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, it would hardly be a stretch to add Booster Gold to the mix.

Eric Martsolf portrayed Booster Gold on an episode of Smallville in 2011, teaming up with Blue Beetle and Tom Welling’s Superman-in-training.
