Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive first look at Terminator: Genisys, the upcoming relaunch of the Terminator series that made Arnold Schwarzenegger a household name. Images of two collector’s covers were revealed today featuring cast members Emilia Clarke (Sarah Connor), Jai Courtney (Kyle Reese), Jason Clarke (John Connor) and Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith in a still super secret role (though he is outfitted in a similar future war gear as Clarke).

The new take on the series reportedly follows a timey whimey plot line that goes in and out of the original film much in the way seen in Back To The Future II.  Yes, event at 67 years old, Arnold Schwarzenegger  will be reprising his iconic role as the T-800. The film’s plot will directly address his age, since Terminator is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. James Cameron provided the Genisys production team with the valuable background info that the Terminator’s human skin can actually age over time.

“I pointed out that the outer covering (of the Terminator) was actually not synthetic, that it was organic and therefore could age. You could theoretically have a Terminator that was sent back in time, missed his target, and ended up just kind of living on in society. Because he is a learning computer and has a brain as a central processor he could actually become more human as he went along without getting discovered.”

Though the film, the first in a planned trilogy, will revisit some familiar ground in the story, EW has some interesting details about how Clarke’s orphaned Sarah Conner differs from Linda Hamilton’s warrior mom:

Twist No. 1? Sarah Connor isn’t the innocent she was when Linda Hamilton first sported feathered hair and acid-washed jeans in the role. Nor is she Hamilton’s steely zero body-fat warrior in 1991’s T2. Rather, the mother of humanity’s messiah was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she’s been raised by (brace yourself) Schwarzenegger’s Terminator—an older T-800 she calls “Pops”—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.

What??
