We know Agent Coulson lives, but he won’t be the only big screen Marvel character to hit the small screen this fall. It looks like Joss Whedon was able to talk CBS and ABC into playing nice regarding How I Met Your Mother and The Avengers star Cobie Smulders. During the Marvel panel at Comic-Con, the first episode was screened for fans in Hall H and Agent Maria Hill in fact makes an appearance in the highly anticipated TV show set to debut on September 24th.
“Due to legal reasons, we can’t show you a clip,” Joss replied, “so we’re just going to show you the episode,” Whedon told the Comic-Con crowd. He not only serves as executive producer on the show, but also wrote and directed the pilot.
“I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she IS S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Whedon told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie.”
With her long-running CBS hit comedy entering its final season, there might be breathing room for more appearances from Cobie down the line, and certainly more if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. goes into season two.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Clark Gregg (Coulson), Ming-Na Wen (Agent Melinda May)and Brett Dalton (Agent Grant Ward), Ian De Caestrecker (Agent Fitz), Elizabeth Henstridge (Agent Simmons), and Chloe Bennet (Skye).
