With Comic-Con fast approaching, an extended trailer and new images for Disney XD’s upcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels have been released. The show will make its mark via a panel Q&A with the show’s cast plus an exclusive special screening planned for the annual mega event on July 24th. A new poster has also been revealed, which echoes the familiar aesthetic of Drew Struzan’s Star Wars posters.
Set between the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, the series will explore a lot of new territory in the established Star Wars universe. As with Cartoon Network’s excellent Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, the Rebels story lines will be considered canon in the new continuity moving forward with J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Episode VII.
Here is the show’s official synopsis:
Star Wars Rebels continues the epic tradition of the legendary Star Wars saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. But there are a select few who are brave enough to stand up against the endless Stormtroopers and TIE fighters of the Empire: the clever and motley crew of the starship Ghost. Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, have thrilling adventures, and become heroes.

Star Wars Rebels will premiere on Disney Channel in October as a one-hour special before hitting Disney XD as a series later in the fall. The voice cast includes Freddie Prinze Jr., Jason Isaacs, Taylor Gray, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar, Vanessa Marshall, David Oyelowo and Billy Dee Williams.
